Hey, don’t touch my plate!

Drs. Tom and Laura Gross

Food or Non-Food: THAT is the question.Whether it is nobler to eat what you want despite biblical and scientific warnings of health risks, citing New Testament freedoms based in the fulfillment of the law in Christ Jesus, or rather to struggle free of our entrenched dietary indiscretions, forging a more natural way of feeding your body for health and wellness despite enormous social and economic pressures designed to hold you in bondage.

It is clear that the Lord Jesus is telling us that who we are in Christ is more important than what we put in our mouths or what we wear (Matt. 6:25, Matt. 15:11).Furthermore when the Lord told Peter to eat what had been considered ceremonially unclean (Acts 10:13-14) it is clear that Peter understood that the Lord was really talking about bringing the message of the gospel to the gentiles (Acts 10:28).When Paul states in Romans 15:14 that “no food is unclean in itself” he is saying that we are obligated in faith and obedience to God but our salvation is not dependent upon the food we eat. Paul summarizes in Romans 14:23b that everything that does not come from faith is sin.First things first, get right with God through radical life changing faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

“Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces. Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span”. Ex 23:24-26 NIV

Next, consider the enormous wisdom in the scriptures designed to protect us from the ravages of dietary foolishness. Science has provided some understanding of the far-reaching protection to our health, which comes from following scriptural dietary guidelines. Fish with no scales are bottom feeders or garbage eaters of the ocean and have the highest levels of pollutants.Birds of prey and carrion eaters are typically riddled with parasites. Swine meat is among the most carcinogenic and also typically toxic.

We have a loving God who wants us to be healthy and full of joy.His Logos and Rhema word will protect us from the ravages of this world.

So just what does the Holy Bible say about food?

Genesis 1:29,… God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Gen 3:18-19Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread.

References to clean and unclean animals show up in Gen 7:7-9.Then in Gen 9:3-4 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

Lev 3:17 'This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood.' "

Lev 11 And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, "Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'These are the animals which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth: Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud--that you may eat… whatever in the water has fins and scales… an abomination among the birds… flying insect that…leap on the earth… Lev 11:24-12:1… Deut 14:3-21…

Prov 23:1-3

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you;

And put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.

Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

1 Cor 10:23-31. All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful… for "the earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness."… Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

The Hebrew diet consisted of organic intact or whole-meal flour or grains. We eat refined white flour.They ate raw honey, dried fruit and juices as sweeteners.We eat hundreds of pounds of refined white sugar and artificial chemical sweeteners.They ate pure cold-pressed (extra virgin) olive and other seed oils.We eat refined polyunsaturated and hydrogenated vegetable oils.They ate clean fish and animal flesh from grass fed cows, grain fed poultry and clean game animals.We over-eat meat from commercially raised sources heavily laden with drugs, hormones and chemical contaminants.They ate organically grown fruits and vegetables while ours are sprayed and soaked with chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.They drank mostly water with some dilute juice and wine.We consume barrels of devitalized and drug contaminated milk, caffeinated drinks and soda.They led physically active demanding lives out of doors.Well, we miss the mark on that one too.

The doctors at Mills River Family Chiropractic are pleased to serve the Lord providing comprehensive “Whole Person" natural health care for restoring and optimizing health at any and all ages.
